Tonya became famous across the country following the 1994 incident, in which Nancy Kerrigan attacked in a mysterious manner just before the start of her "National Champion." She took advantage of her popularity and acclaim so she could change the course of ladies' figure skating. Her story as well as her accomplishments became a part of many scientific studies, and in the year 2017 a biopic titled 'I, Tonya' was released.
